Days after the Benue State Government, North central Nigeria, confirmed the outbreak of Lassa fever in seven local government areas – Obi, Okpokwu, Gwer West, Makurdi, Guma, Gwer East and Ukum, the death toll from the disease has reached 13, while the confirmed cases have jumped to 55.
The Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Dr Yanmar Ortese, stated this while reporting the current outbreak of Epidemiology week 9.
The State Epidemiologist, Dr Sam Ngishe, had last week disclosed that nine people out of the 46 confirmed cases of Lassa fever in the state lost their lives.
