Operatives of the Lagos State and Ogun State Police Commands have rescued a group of kidnap victims after a video circulating online showed the hostages being held in a forest in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
One of the rescued victims, Mr. Jimoh Gbadamosi, told Channels TV that the kidnappers spoke fluent Fulani and were led by a man identified as Babangida. “There were five of them. They covered their faces. They speak Fulani fluently, they called one of them Babangida, he was the leader of the gang. He was the one who came to address us. He told us, ‘Do you know where you are now? Do you know our mission? You should know that we are kidnappers.’ We said yes. So they had a phone they used to assist us, they gave us the phone, one by one, so we could call our families for ransom,” he said.
Police operatives moved swiftly after the video emerged online, rescuing the victims and eliminating four of the five suspects during the operation.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians, expressing confidence that the same decisive approach would be replicated by police commands across the country.
