The Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, North west Nigeria, on Monday, flagged off a new anthrax vaccination programme to improve livestock healthcare in the area.
At the launch of the exercise in Rangaza ward, the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Tijjani Bilyamu, described it as a crucial step toward eradicating Anthrax among cows, sheep, and goats.
He urged farmers, cattle rearers, and the general public to make available their livestock for vaccination.
The Rangaza Village Head, Ahmed Bashir and his counterpart in Zaura Danbaba, Malam Haladu Ibrahim, stressed the importance of the exercise and urged ward heads and community leaders to sensitise the public.
A veterinary doctor, Dr Sharani Habibu, said the objective of the programme was to eradicate disease and promote healthy growth among livestock.
The Head of the Agriculture Department, Ibrahim Shehu, said the vaccination programme was free, adding that eight centres had been designated for the two-day exercise.
In a press statement, the Information Officer of the council, Salisu Yakasai, said: “Miyetti Allah Chairman, Alhaji Bature and FULDAN Chairman, Wada Isa, commended the local government and the state government for providing anthrax vaccination in the area.”
