Five professors from the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, have made history by being ranked among the top two per cent of scientists in Nigeria by Stanford University for the third consecutive year.
The professors, including Adejuwon Adeneye, Idowu Senbanjo, Anthonia Ogbera, Olumuyiwa Odusanya, and Olayinka Ogunleye were recognised for their outstanding research contributions.
The Stanford University publication is the world’s most prestigious ranking, recognising the most cited scientists annually.
This achievement elevates Nigerian scholarship globally and improves health outcomes locally.
LASUCOM Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, praised the professors, saying, “Their achievement demonstrates world-class research happening here.”
Adewuya noted that the recognition highlights individual achievements, cements LASUCOM’s academic excellence, and showcases the institution’s commitment to groundbreaking research.
He stated that these professors would inspire future Nigerian scientists and underscored the importance of investing in research institutions to remain globally competitive.
“For LASUCOM, this achievement motivates continued production of world-class research addressing local and global health challenges,” he said.
