The United Nations Children’s Fund has delivered a shipment of the new Men Five meningitis vaccine from the Vaccine Alliance-funded global stockpile to Nigeria, making the country the first to be a recipient.
This was disclosed in a press statement made available to PUNCH Healthwise by Gavi on Thursday.
According to the World Health Organisation, Meningitis is an infection of the meninges, the thin lining that surrounds the brain and spinal cord and is transmitted from person to person through droplets of respiratory and throat secretions.
