A United States pastor, Dale Sanders, has been found guilty of stealing more than $340,000 from two churches in Louisiana to pay for gambling and other personal expenses.
According to Punch Newspaper, a federal jury convicted the 56-year-old on 25 counts, including wire fraud, access device fraud and obstruction of a federal investigation, after a five-day trial.
Prosecutors said Sanders unlawfully transferred church funds into accounts under his control and also used a church debit card for unauthorised personal spending, including gambling, dining and living expenses.
He was also convicted of submitting a falsified record during a federal grand jury investigation. Sentencing is scheduled for October 13, 2026, and he could face up to 20 years in prison, fines and other penalties.
