A UK court has sentenced Nigerian national Obinwa Obichukwu to two years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman twice at Euston railway station in London.
The 45-year-old was convicted on two counts of sexual assault and sentenced by the Inner London Crown Court on July 21.
The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and directed that Obichukwu remain on the UK sex offenders register for a decade.
Punch News reports that the conviction followed an investigation by the British Transport Police, with CCTV footage and the victim’s testimony forming key evidence.
The assault occurred on August 20, 2023, after Obichukwu allegedly approached the woman outside Euston station, attempted to persuade her to go home with him, repeatedly grabbed her hand, and later sexually assaulted her at the station entrance.
He reportedly followed her into the station and assaulted her again before she managed to escape and alert the authorities.
Following the report, British Transport Police officers arrested Obichukwu at his Hertfordshire residence.
Detective Constable Daniel Burke described him as a dangerous sexual offender who targeted a lone woman, adding that the jury rejected his claim that the encounter was consensual.
He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to tackling violence against women and bringing offenders to justice.
