A 55-year-old Lagos trader, Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly attempting to export 3.30kg of cocaine concealed inside food cartons destined for the United Kingdom.
Daily Post reported that the suspect was apprehended after operatives intercepted the shipment at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Investigators said the probe first led to the arrest of three cargo agents and another suspect who allegedly delivered the consignment before Chinedu was identified as the alleged mastermind. He was reportedly arrested while making another attempt to ship cocaine to the UK.
In a separate operation, NDLEA arrested a 31-year-old businesswoman, Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo, after intercepting a parcel containing 2.80kg of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, imported from the United States.
The agency also intercepted 2.24 million pills of Tapentadol 250mg worth over N2.2 billion at the Lagos airport, recovered tramadol hidden inside black soap containers meant for export, and uncovered 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud weighing 2,388.5kg concealed in vehicles at Apapa Seaport.
Elsewhere, operatives arrested two suspects in Katsina and Kaduna states with hundreds of rounds of concealed ammunition, while a raid in Edo State led to the recovery of 1,286kg of cannabis and 86kg of cannabis seeds, alongside the arrest of two additional suspects.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced strategy of enforcement and anti-drug awareness campaigns nationwide.
