An unidentified wheelbarrow pusher was discovered dead in his barrow on Aba-Owerri Road, Abia State, where he had been resting, PremiumTimes reports. Police have evacuated the decomposing body to a mortuary and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The remains, believed to be those of a man in his 50s, were found at Atuma House near St. Paul’s Church, already showing signs of decomposition, according to eyewitnesses.
Social media posts suggested the man may have died while napping after work, though authorities have yet to confirm the cause.
Police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident to PremiumTimes on Friday, stating that an investigation is underway to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances of his death.
The Abayi Police Division had requested the urgent evacuation of the corpse, citing public health concerns. The body was taken to Abia State University Teaching Hospital, and local health officials have appealed to the public for help with identification.
