A shocking discovery has sparked a criminal investigation in south-east France after a man allegedly found the decomposing remains of five dead babies hidden inside cardboard boxes at his home following an argument with his pregnant wife.
According to Linda Ikeji Blog, the woman had complained of abdominal pain before she was taken to hospital, prompting her husband to inspect the boxes they had been disputing over.
The report stated that the husband discovered the remains on Monday after his wife was hospitalized. Linda Ikeji Blog reported that all five foetuses were in an advanced state of decomposition and had been stored together inside cardboard boxes placed in a plastic bag.
According to investigators, the man took the bag containing the remains to the hospital, where medical personnel alerted the police.
Prosecutors in Carpentras have since launched a criminal investigation into the disturbing case.
The report added that the 32-year-old woman, whose identity has been withheld under French law, had reportedly suffered three failed pregnancies before giving birth to a newborn on the same day.
The couple also have two other children, aged eight and 12.
No arrests have been made, and the woman remains in hospital while investigations continue.
