The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a man accused of allegedly threatening, intimidating, and attempting to dispossess his daughter-in-law of her late husband’s property in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to Punch News, the arrest followed allegations that the widow was subjected to harassment after her husband’s death.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) disclosed that it contacted the widow, identified as Tosin, after receiving reports of the alleged abuse.
She reportedly told the agency that she had faced threats to her life, physical assault, and intimidation, adding that the matter had already been reported to the Owutu Police Division.
The agency said it immediately began working with the investigating officers, who confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and remains in police custody while investigations continue.
Lawyers representing the widow under the Project Protect Widows Initiative alleged that she and her children were forced out of their matrimonial home just eight days after her husband’s death.
They further claimed that the deceased’s father, alongside other family members, attempted to seize his assets, with some belongings already shared and efforts allegedly underway to sell his vehicles.
The legal team insisted that the widow remains the deceased’s lawful wife and is entitled to full legal protection, stressing that any property unlawfully taken or sold would be recovered through legal means.
The DSVA reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting the widow and her children while ensuring justice is served in accordance with the law.
