KWARA WOMAN ALLEGEDLY STRANGLES CO-WIFE’S DAUGHTER
A Kwara State housewife, Sadiat Yunusa, has been arraigned for allegedly killing the three-year-old daughter of her co-wife in a tragic incident said to have been triggered by long-standing family conflict and jealousy.
According to Tribune Online, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the incident occurred in Kaiama Local Government Area after the child’s mother reportedly left her in the care of a relative while she went to Kaiama Central Market. Police alleged that Yunusa lured the little girl, identified as Ummaiyat, to a nearby farm settlement where she allegedly strangled her to death.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspect confessed during interrogation, claiming she acted out of bitterness because her husband allegedly paid more attention to his second wife while neglecting her and her three children. Following investigations, she has been charged to court to face prosecution.
In a separate development, the Kwara State Police Command also announced the arrest of three teenage suspects—Ali Umaru (16), Alhaji Modu (17), and Abacha Babagana (14)—for allegedly possessing a large quantity of electronic gadgets believed to be stolen.
The suspects were intercepted during a stop-and-search operation along the Oko-Olowo/Alapa route on July 20, 2026. Officers recovered several cartons of mobile phones, power banks, used smartphones, a portable speaker, and wristwatches.
Police said the teenagers could not provide credible proof of ownership, purchase receipts, or transport documents for the items. Their conflicting explanations reportedly prompted further investigation.
According to the command, preliminary findings provided enough evidence to charge the suspects with possession of property reasonably suspected to have been stolen. They have since been remanded at a juvenile correctional facility while legal proceedings continue.
